Election
Colin Powell and Soldier Kareem R. Khan
This morning, Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama and stated he would vote for him November 4th. He also lit the McCain campaign and the strategies they were using which he felt were taking the Republican party down a path he did not agree with. He stated that he's heard some Republican colleagues calling Obama a Muslim (which he is NOT) and tying him with terrorist connections, creating this fear and hate. And in my opinion, has created this overall tension which has bubbled over to racism in many instances. If you need examples, read my blog.
In Colin Powell's interview on Meet the Press, he mentioned a Muslim soldier who fought and died heroically for our country. This story reminded us that no matter your differences in color, race and gender, we are all Americans and on the battlefield when you wear the US military uniform, it's American blood that is shed. If you want to learn more about this heartbreaking story, here's a link to a NY Times article:

My favorite part of the Powell interview was this line:
“He was 14 years old at the time of 9/11, and he waited until he could go serve his country, and he gave his life,” Mr. Powell said. “Now, we have got to stop polarizing ourselves in this way.”
When I remember that ignorant McCain supporter at the townhall meeting proclaim that she was scared of Obama because he's an "Arab" it makes me sad. And video footage of McCain supporters attending McCain/Palin rallies yelling "Obama's a Muslim" it saddens me even more. Arabs, Muslims, Black, Whites, Hispanics, Straights, Guys, Women and Men are fighting and dying overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan protecting our freedom. And for these ignorant and uninformed supporters to paint Muslims as some type of scary figure is utterly disgusting and dishearteneing.
Now I know all Republicans aren't racists or ignorant, so please don't attack me and assume by my posting this, that is what I'm doing.
Thanks.
